How PDF size reduction actually works
Two techniques do most of the work. Lossless re-streaming rewrites the PDF using object streams and removes orphaned data — same pixels, smaller file. Rasterization converts pages to JPEGs at a chosen quality level — much smaller, with a quality trade-off. Digitol Tools picks whichever is smaller and stays within your target.
Three modes, one target box
High Quality is lossless only. Balanced lands at ~65% JPEG quality. Low Size drops to 40%. The Target Size box overrides all of that and runs a binary search until your file fits.
What you'll save
Typical results: a 25MB scanned report → 800KB. A 4MB image-heavy presentation → 600KB. A 200KB text-only invoice → about 180KB (already efficient).
